Tunisian swimmer Maroua Methlouthi snatched nine gold medals at the Pan Arab Games now under way in Cairo, surpassing Oussama Mellouli’s seven-gold record posted at the 2007 Algiers Pan African Games.
Methlouthi alone has grabbed more gold medals than the combined total from Palestine, UAE, Sudan, Yemen and Bahrain.
Tunisia's medal tally reached 103 Monday (November 19th), including 47 gold, 25 silver and 31 bronzes. The total puts Tunisia ahead of Algeria’s 91 medals (23 gold, 31 silver and 37 bronze). Morocco moved to the fifth position with 50 medals (8 gold, 15 silver and 27 bronze). Egypt, meanwhile, continues to top the table with 252 medals, including 104 gold.
