Vendor at the Amino Craft Market, Dwayne Francis, has urged the Health Department to address a troubling issue lurking at the back of the market.
Francis told the SUN that vendors have been complaining for weeks about an overflowing septic tank at the back of his and other vendors’ booths. He said the tank, in addition to the water which is seeping out, has a foul scent emitting and is compounded when rain falls.
Francis' complaints have been made to the Health Department and also the Tourism Authority, but to no avail.
National queen pageant partners with AIDS Secretariat
The National Carnival Queen Pageant Committee is partnering with the AIDS Secretariat in an effort to generate greater awareness about HIV/AIDS.
This partnership is just one of many initiatives being exploited in an effort to combat the deadly pandemic from every front.
As a result of this partnership, the six young ladies who will be participating in this year’s prestigious National Carnival Queen Pageant are now official ambassadors for the National AIDS Secretariat and will be advocating all the objectives of the organisation.
Among the important messages they will be promoting about HIV/AIDS are prevention, care, support and treatment.
Govt explores production of bio-fuel
King Sugar may soon reign again if plans being made by the government of St. Kitts/Nevis to resume the production and harvesting of sugar cane materialise.
During Monday evening’s BBC Caribbean Report, Prime Minister of the Federation Dr. Denzil Douglas spoke of the move which comes just about two years after the closing of the 300-year sugar industry.
PM Douglas informed that the sugar cane would be used for the production of bio-fuel, more specifically, ethanol.
CFBC holds annual graduation

On Tuesday, 206 graduates were officially ushered into the world of work following the 19th annual Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) commencement ceremony under the theme, “Promoting sustainable development through self-empowerment”. The opening remarks were rendered by Principal Sonia Mc Phail who congratulated the students for successfully completing their academic year.
Federation receives monetary gift from Taiwan
Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) John Liu donated US$380,000 Tuesday morning on behalf of the Taiwanese government to the Ministries of Agriculture and National Security. A brief ceremony was held to mark the donation. Liu told the gathering, “I am pleased to make a donation of US$150,000 to the Ministry of National Security for the purchase of musical instruments for the Defence Force Band and six trucks for the army to assist in emergency relief operations, especially in the hurricane season in the Federation.”
Search on for wanted men
The public’s assistance is being solicited by the police as they seek to find and apprehend two young men who, they claim, were involved in two separate incidents of robbery.
A police press release issued yesterday lists the men as 19-year-old Bernard Berry of Cardin Avenue and 21-year-old Denzil “Parra” Williams, resident of Fort Thomas Road and it further informed that warrants for the men’s arrests are in existence.
The release further informed that the robbery incidents involved firearms and were committed on 6 Nov., and 12 Nov., respectively.
