Matserudin Family Holds Mass Reunion

For most families, a get-together can either be an annual picnic in a park or a gathering at a family member's house.

However, organising a Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering for the whole Matserudin family is a bit more complicated as there are more than 1,000 of them residing nationwide.

Thus Dewan Muhibbah at Brunei-Muara District Office in Berakas became the venue for Saturday night's gathering. In previous years, the gatherings were done in various places such as school auditoriums.

Family members said the Matserudin family first settled more than 50 years ago on the banks of the Brunei River at Kg Burung Pinggai Berakas.

The Matserudin family holds a mass reunion annually in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

The reunion was enlivened by stage performances which were rehearsed a few days prior to the big day.

Although quite a number of family members didn't turn up, the gathering still drew more than 500 people.

The guests were grouped according to the late Matserudin's three children - Aminah, Hindun and POKULDP Haji Omar.

At the event, family members took a family oath, performed special performances, participated in a costume competition and held raffle draws.
