Hong
Kong welcomes record number of visitors in August
Hong Kong saw a record single- month total of
2.76 million visitors in August, representing
a year-on-year growth of 16.9 percent, according
to government statistics released Friday.
For the first eight months of the year, visitors
to Hong Kong totaled 18.24 million, growing
9 percent on a year-on-year basis, the Tourism
Board said in a press release.
Arrivals from the Chinese mainland rose 23.5
percent to over 1. 68 million in August, the
Tourism Board said, adding that it was "
the best-ever monthly record for the mainland".
Arrivals
from the mainland during the first eight months
totaled 10.18 million, up 9.8 percent from the
same period of 2006.
