Hong
Kong's best shopping hotspots
AVOIDING shops in Hong Kong is like avoiding
August typhoons. Both are driven by inescapable
cosmic forces. They arrive in a tempest, full
of passion and fury, but once they pass, they
leave a strange calm that is a mixture of relief
and triumph.
There are probably few people who don't feel
the urge to shop when they visit Hong Kong.
It is one of the great shopping centres of the
world, but that is also one of its flaws –
the city can seem like a giant shopping centre.
At times, wandering mindlessly past and through
the 700 shops in Canton Rd's flagship Harbour
City, I could have sworn I was at Melbourne's
own fashion capital, Chadstone.
