Mass
resignations as Musharraf names successor
Opposition MPs in Pakistan have taken part in
a mass resignation as General Pervez Musharraf
attempts to be re-elected.
Some
85 national assembly MPs have submitted their
resignations ahead of the presidential election
this weekend.
Maulana
Fazal-ur Rahman, the parliamentary opposition
leader said the resignations would ensure that
Gen Musharraf's re-election, should it happen,
would have "no value".
The
news comes as the current president, who has
pledged to stand down as head of the army if
he gains re-election, announced his successor
in the military. |
