May
will have experts check knee
While
his Bobcats teammates opened training camp,
Sean May toured the country's top orthopedists.May
has been limited to 58 of a possible 164 regular-season
games in his two NBA seasons. That's because
of cartilage problems in his right knee. May
was in New York on Tuesday, consulting with
a specialist, and will travel to Birmingham,
Ala., today for an appointment with renowned
orthopedic surgeon James Andrews.
From
there, May will either fly to Charlotte, to
consult with Dr. Glenn Perry, the team physician,
or join the Bobcats in Wilmington for the rest
of camp. Coach Sam Vincent isn't sure when May
will be cleared to practice.
"My
optimistic side says yes," Vincent said
of May getting some work in camp. "My realistic
side says, I don't know."
Vincent
said May has suffered no setback to his recovery
from a severe knee bruise that sidelined him
last season. However, the Bobcats plan to treat
May's knee conservatively in the preseason.
