City
of Columbia looking to Mobile for help with
school strategy
City
of Columbia leaders are getting involved to
help five schools that aren't making the grade.
Columbia
City Council is taking its act on the road.
Their meeting is Wednesday afternoon at CA Johnson
Preparatory Academy. The aging facility is one
of five Richland District One schools singled
out by the state for failing to meet academic
standards.
It's
an appropriate backdrop as the council plans
more travel. City leaders are considering a
trip to Mobile, Alabama, to get a first-hand
look at a school reform effort known as "Together
We Can."
It's
a strategy designed to mobilize Mobile - in
fact, all of Mobile County - for better schools.
The approach brings in government, business,
civic and faith organizations.
