A questionable out-of-state travel agency mailing letters to consumers and meeting them at local hotels is headed to Milwaukee this weekend and may be going to other Wisconsin communities, according to a news release from the state consumer protection office.
The attorney general of Kansas shut down Elite Escapes International LLC in that state because of alleged deceptive acts, according to the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.
When granting the temporary restraining order, the Kansas court found multiple violations, including:
The business sends prize notices to consumers but fails to tell them they must sit through a sales presentation before they can receive the prize.
The business tells consumers that they will receive substantial discounts when in fact the prices offered are no less than the prices available to the general public.
The business tells consumers they must buy the travel services on the same day as the presentation to get the discount when in fact the business offers the same discount at every sales presentation. |
