Discovery Travel & Living takes audience on a global tour with ‘1000 Places to See Before You Die’

By ELLEN CREAGER

Inspired by travel writer Patricia Schultz’s best-selling book ‘1000 Places to See Before You Die’, Discovery Travel & Living has launched a new series that embodies the spirit of exploration and serves as an inspirational travel guide. The 13-episode series with the same name chronicles the journey of a young couple, who put their lives on hold to travel the world, utilising the book as their primary guide. The one-hour show is currently being aired on Fridays at 8 pm.

‘1,000 Places to See Before You Die’ takes viewers to 13 amazing locations around the world, including Peru, Alaska, India, Vancouver, Mexico, Brazil, South Africa, France, Italy, Nepal, Cambodia, Australia and Hawaii, with newlyweds Albin and Melanie Ulle, who were chosen to plan this whirlwind journey. In each one-hour episode, viewers get to visit well-known tourist sites, as well as discover some unique local delights and favourites.

In each location, the couple unearth the unique local charm and traditions, finding the best places to get Henna tattoos in an Indian bazaar, stomp grapes at an Italian vineyard, pan for real gold in the Yukon, ride ostriches in South Africa, and gamble the night away in ritzy Monaco. Through the Ulles, the viewer can experience every new location from a very real, first-hand perspective. Additionally, local experts and guides would be continually consulted about insider information and area history.

From exploring astonishing landmarks such as the Taj Mahal, Humayun’s Tomb and the Bahai Temple, to taking a rickshaw ride through Delhi’s bustling streets and getting Henna tattoos, the episode on India will air on November 16 at 8 pm.

According to Aditya Tripathi, Vice President-Lifestyle, Discovery Networks India, “With an increasing number of people wanting to quench their desire to travel, a programme like ‘1000 Place to See Before You Die’ is extremely evocative and acts as an ultimate guide. The modern day traveller has become far more mindful of which place to visit and insists on more than the ordinary.”
