Festival of Trees kicks off fundraiser to bring arts to the Nevada State Library and Archives

For the last week, the employees of the Nevada State Library and Archives have spent every free moment putting up holiday cheer.

At the third annual Festival of Trees, cheer comes in the form of M&Ms, Harley-Davidson ornaments and driftwood.

Holiday travelers will pay more for hotel rooms, car rentals

Gas prices in Nevada are down about 5 cents a gallon compared to last year, but any savings will be eaten up by other travel costs, according to a new report from AAA Nevada.

AAA's survey finds more than 317,000 Nevadans plan to travel 50 miles or more over the Thanksgiving holiday. About 81 percent will travel by car. About 14 percent plan on flying to their destinations. The number of people traveling by vehicle and air is up more than 2.5 percent from last year.

Update: More than 328,000 Nevadans plan to travel 50 miles or more over the long holiday weekend. Of those, more than 264,000 people, or 81 percent, plan to travel by car. Roughly 47,000 or 14 percent plan to fly and the remaining 5 percent will use trains, buses or cruise ships. The numbers of vehicle and air travelers are about 1 percent higher than last year. Nationally, AAA predicts more than 38 million people will travel during the Thanksgiving weekend.
