Boro
Suffer Egyptian Blow
by Goal.com
The pair were training
with the Egyptian national squad preparing for
the Pharaohs crucial upcoming World Cup qualifier
against the D.R Congo.
Mido limped out of the training
session but luckily for him, the injury is minimal,
and he is expected to be fit in time for the
Congo D.R match.
Speaking to Egyptianplayers.com,
Mido said, “I want to take part in the
match, even if I will play for a few minutes.
“I will do whatever it takes
to be fit for the game. I may start on the bench.”
Mido moved to Boro last summer
for a fee of £6m from Tottenham. He has
however, been hampered by injury, meaning that
he was only able to make 14 league appearances
for the club, scoring three times in the process.
Unfortunately for Boro boss Gareth
Southgate, Shawky’s injury is a little
more serious, and will see him miss at least
two to three weeks of Boro’s Premier League
campaign.
As a result, Shawky will not travel
to Congo D.R, and will instead either remain
in Egypt or fly back to England for treatment
on the groin strain.
Shawky was signed by Southgate
on the last day of the transfer window last
season, for a fee of £650,000. After having
a slow start to his Boro career blighted by
injuries, Shawky is now looking to secure a
first team place in the side, and will hope
to build on the five league appearances he made
for the club last season
