British skiers travel to European resorts
by Denise Clarke
European skiing destinations are the most popular options for British winter sports fans, it has been revealed.
The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) said the majority of skiers from the UK tended to stay close to home in order to indulge their hobby, with France described as their favourite destination.
This was said to be due to its accessibility and the convenience of reaching the country, as well as the quality of its resorts.
Frances Tuke, PR manager at ABTA, commented: "Austria used to be the favourite destination but that has changed now."
She added that it was easy for people to fly to destinations such as Geneva, as it would allow people to have easy access to resorts in many neighbouring countries.
This could potentially add to the appeal of ski resorts as investment locations, as holiday homes and rental property is likely to be in demand.
According to budget airline easyJet, more than 2.5 million people are set to fly to skiing destinations with the carrier this winter.
